TODAY’S VERSE

If we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins. We can trust God. He does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrongs we have done.

1 John 1:9

DEVOTIONAL

“I have decided to follow Jesus; I have decided to follow Jesus; I have decided to follow Jesus; No turning back, no turning back.”

You probably know this song well, but do you understand what it means? Deciding to follow Jesus is the most important thing you could ever do and it starts with a confession. Although it is important to confess our sins to God when we know we have done wrong, this particular verse isn’t about specific sins. It’s about understanding the state of your heart and is more like saying, “I agree with You, God. You are holy and perfect; I am sinful and have broken Your laws. I owe a debt for my sin that I can never pay. I need Jesus to rescue me.”

Then we can trust God to forgive our sins because He already sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for us. Just before He died, Jesus said, “It is finished.” That means if we confess our sins, the debt we owed to God is wiped clean forever, paid in full by Jesus!

Will you decide now to follow Jesus? No turning back.

PRAYER

Dear God, thank You for Your amazing promise of forgiveness through Your Son. Please help me to follow Jesus and trust in His finished work on the cross. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
