TODAY’S VERSE
When I am afraid, I will trust you. I praise God for his word. I trust God. So I am not afraid. What can human beings do to me?
Psalm 56:3-4 ICB
DEVOTIONAL
Do you ever wake up from bad dreams and feel frightened? You probably call out or run to your mum or dad for help. You know they love you, so you can trust them to help and protect you. And when they hold you and tell you everything’s going to be ok, the fear goes away.
The Bible tells us over and over again not to be afraid. As a matter of fact, God’s Word tells us not to fear over 300 times! Since God said that so much, He must be really serious about it, right? But did you notice that today’s verse doesn’t say ‘if’ I’m afraid? It says ‘when’ I’m afraid. Everyone gets scared sometimes; Even King David, who wrote this Psalm, got scared! God knows that and wants us to trust Him.
Trusting God doesn’t mean we’ll never be afraid. It means we know who to run to when it does happen; and we know that God will always be there to love us, comfort us, and remind us that we have nothing to fear because God’s Word says so, and His Word is always true.
PRAYER
Dear God, thank You that Your Word reminds us over and over again not to fear. Please help me to trust You and turn to you whenever I am afraid. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
