TODAY’S VERSE

Jesus said, “Come.” And Peter left the boat and walked on the water to Jesus. But when Peter saw the wind and the waves, he became afraid and began to sink. He shouted, “Lord, save me!” Then Jesus reached out his hand and caught Peter. Jesus said, “Your faith is small. Why did you doubt?”

Matthew 14:29-31 ICB

DEVOTIONAL

One day Jesus told His disciples to get in a boat and cross the sea while He went to pray to His father. During the journey a fierce storm arose and they were afraid. Then they saw someone walking toward them and heard a voice telling them not to be afraid…it was Jesus! When Peter stepped out and walked on the water it wasn’t because he was special, but because he trusted Jesus when He’d told Peter to come. As long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, he was OK. It wasn’t until he took his eyes off of Jesus and worried about the wind and waves around him that Peter began to sink. Even though his faith wavered, when Peter called out, Jesus saved him.

Are you sometimes afraid? Perhaps you’re scared of the dark. Maybe you’re worried about a test at school or that you won’t meet friends when you go someplace new. There are many things in life that can be scary, but the Bible tells us not to fear. That’s not because there won’t ever be troubles we’ll have to face, but because we can always trust Jesus to help us through them. What was true for Peter is true for us as well. So when you’re afraid, keep your eyes on Jesus, and even when your faith wavers, pray. He will always hear you.

PRAYER

Dear God, thank You that even when my faith is small, Jesus never leaves me. When I’m afraid, please help me to keep my eyes on Him. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
