TODAY’S VERSE

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Ephesians 2:10 ESV

DEVOTIONAL

Ever since Adam and Eve first sinned, every single person ever born also sins, and our sins are what separate us from God. It’s only because of God’s love and mercy that we can be forgiven through Jesus. We’re saved by His grace; It’s a free gift, which means there’s nothing we can do to earn it. So if we can’t earn it, why does this verse say we’re created for good works?

We have to back up just a little bit for the answer. “His workmanship” means that it’s God doing the saving work. Like a potter forms clay, God shapes us into a new creation through Jesus. He creates in each of us our own work to do that He sets in place when He makes us! He creates our gifts and talents and abilities uniquely. And while we can’t do any work to be saved, when we follow Jesus, He does give us work for His kingdom. When we live that out, it reflects His goodness to the world and brings Him glory.

PRAYER

Dear God, thank You for making me new in Jesus and creating me with a purpose. Please help me to live out the good works that You planned for me at home, at school, in my community and everywhere that I go. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
