TODAY’S VERSE
You are the light that gives light to the world. A city that is built on a hill cannot be hidden. And people don’t hide a light under a bowl. They put the light on a lampstand. Then the light shines for all the people in the house. In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do. Live so that they will praise your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16 ICB (the verse has been changed from the one printed on the reading plan)
DEVOTIONAL
Imagine riding in a car on a quiet road late at night. It has been a long journey in the darkness, and you are so tired and hungry! If only there was somewhere to stop for a while. Suddenly you see lights in the distance! You’re still miles away, yet you can clearly see a city on a hill, with lights shining brightly through the windows of houses, restaurants and maybe even a hotel with a comfy bed. What a welcome sight would that be?
Like the city on a hill gives hope of rest to the weary traveller, followers of Jesus shine light in a dark world full of weary souls. That’s not because of anything we have done, but because we belong to Jesus, who is the Light of the world. When our lives and actions reflect who Jesus is, people will be able see what He’s done in our lives and praise God for it.
PRAYER
Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to be the Light of the world to rescue us. Please help me to be a light so others can see Jesus through me and praise You for what You have done. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
