TODAY’S VERSE
Do everything without complaining or arguing. Then you will be innocent and without anything wrong in you. You will be God’s children without fault. But you are living with crooked and mean people all around you. Among them you shine like stars in the dark world.
Philippians 2:14-15 ICB
DEVOTIONAL
This verse is from a letter that Paul wrote to the church in Philippi. In it, he reminded the people they were to imitate Jesus in the way that they lived. He told them not to complain or argue. Instead, they should be glad and rejoice. In doing so, they would stand out from the world, by shining light into it.
This verse still applies to us today. No one wants to hear about Jesus from someone who complains or argues. Why would they believe what we have to say about a Rescuer who loves them if our actions show the opposite of His teachings? But if we listen to Paul and be glad and rejoice, we’ll stand out from those who are crooked and mean. We’ll shine like stars in a dark world. Then, when we tell others about Jesus, they’ll want to listen. They’ll see that because we have Jesus, we have joy in our hearts and hopefully they’ll want to know how they can follow Him too!
PRAYER
Dear God, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to rescue us. Please help me to not complain and argue, but instead shine like a star in the dark world, so that others see my joy and want to know Jesus too. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
